#1 Strength Within
I often ask myself why is it so difficult for a person to tell someone what they are good at? What is it that blocks us from openly sharing and being confident in talking about positive aspects or our lives.
Well, after working with over a thousand young people I have realised just how important it is to explore each individuals strengths, highlight them and encourage them to use these strengths to make positive changes in their lives.
Think about this scenario for a moment... you have grown up in a household where your parents always provided you with necessities to survive. You have had many more financial advantages than most people, however you barely communicated with your parents. You never heard the words "great job" or "thank you", instead you were ignored. How would this make you feel? Lonely? Angry? Abandoned?
Sadly this is the reality of many young peoples' lives today. They are trying to grow and find their place in the word, but struggle to navigate their way through because of the emotional void they feel from the lack of support. These people could be your neighbours, friends, family members or even your local barista... let that sink in.
Now that you have had a think about it, why not go that extra step and check in on someone you care about. Ask them how they're doing, ask them what they're good at, and use your knowledge to help them adopt the strength based approach. All it takes it 10 minutes to make a positive impact on someone's life.
